Lakhon elected as Chairman unopposed
JOWAI: Lakhon Biam a first time MDC from Nongbah constituency was elected unopposed to the prestigious position of Chairman of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) this morning.
Presiding over the election, DC Jowai Garod LSN Dykes informed that the office of secretary legislative received two nomination papers in favour of Biam from R Tang MDC and seconded by Lakhon Dkhar MDC while the second one was proposed by Het Pothmi MDC and seconded by Lasky Rymbai, MDC as there is no other candidate against him, Biam is declared uncontested to the post of Chairman.
Biam occupied the chair of Chairman at 11.10 am and the DC exited from the council hall as he has completed his duty.
Thombor Shiwat the Chief Executive Member elect was the first speaker to raise up and felicitated Biam on his election as chairman of the council besides other MDCs who congratulated the newly elected Chairman.
Speaking on his election as Chairman, Biam who is an engineer turned politician assured the house that he will maintain impartiality and sincerity at all time.
Biam resigned from the post of SDO PWD and unsuccessfully contested the MLA election from Raliang last year on BJP ticket. He resigned from BJP and joined UDP and contested the MDC election and won.
