Nearly 50 % ST students failed while Garo Hills Region fared badly in SSLC Examination
JOWAI: Out of a grand total of 50050 students who appeared in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination conducted by Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) only 27887 students passed in the result declared on Monday.
As per break up on the Category wise/Gender-wise percentage furnished by MBoSE, a total of 106 males and 134 females from the Schedule Caste category appeared in the examination where 64 males and 86 females were declared successful.
In the Schedule Tribe category which constituted the bulk of the students, 21040 males and 25360 females attempted the examination but only half of them managed to cross the bridge as 11161 males and 14091 females passed the examination.
While 222 males and 196 females students appeared from the Other Backward Classes category and the result was good as 140 females and 165 males students cleared the Board’s examination.
The students in the General Category fared well in the SSLC examination as 1560 males and 1432 females students appeared and out of which 1143 males and 1037 females students passed the examination.
Comparing the SSLC results amongst the 11 districts of the State, South West Garo Hills has the lowest percentage of pass result while surprisingly East ofJaintia Hills District topped the chart amongst the pass percentage of students with 77.06 percent.
According to the district-wise category, in East Garo Hills 2377 appeared in the examination but only 959 passed giving a pass percentage of 40.34 while West Garo Hills also did not fared well in the examination as only 38.17 percent cleared the examination as 10295 appeared and only 3930 students passed the examination.
1156 students passed from South Garo Hills out of the 2959 students that appeared in the examination giving a pass percentage of 39.07. In South West Garo Hills, 4549 students appeared in the examination while 1179 students were successful thereby resulting in pass percentage of 25.92 while from North Garo Hills 3139 appeared and only 1140 passed the examination and the pass percentage is 36.32.
In the Eastern Range of Meghalaya, 12769 students appeared but 9569 students cleared the examination from East Khasi Hills and the percentage stands at 74.94 while in West Khasi Hills 3312 appeared the examination while a total of 2282 crossed the bridge and the percentage is 68.90.
A total numbers of 3208 students appeared the examination and 2290 were successful giving a percentage of 71.38 while South West Khasi Hills with the least numbers students of 1721 who appeared in the examination only 1023 managed to sail through and the percentage is 59.44.
From West Jaintia Hills, the numbers of students who appeared was 3855 and out of which 2921 cleared the examination and the percentage is 75.77 while East Jaintia Hills with the highest pass percentage amongst the eleven districts of 77.06 has 1866 students who appeared the examination and a total of 1438 were successful.
