1 dies of COVID-19, 121 new cases detected in Meghalaya
A 36-year-old man died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 152 on Friday.
Bron Narlong, a resident of Umklai Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district was diagnosed case of COVID-19 by rapid antigen test (RAT) at Nongpoh civil hospital, from where he was immediately referred to Shillong civil hospital on Thursday, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
“The cause of death was due to COVID-19, acute respiratory failure and septic shock,” he said.
Meanwhile, 121 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the tally of active cases in the state up to 565 on Friday.
Dr War said the new cases include 80 in East Khasi Hills district, 26 in West Jaintia Hills district, 5 each in Ri Bhoi district and East Jaintia Hills district, 2 each in South West Khasi Hills district and West Garo Hills district and 1 in North Garo Hills district
He informed 12 patients have also recovered from the viral infection of which 9 are from East Khasi Hills district and 3 from Ri Bhoi district.
So far, the state has detected a total of 14,703 COVID-19 cases out of which 565 are active cases, 13,986 recovered and 152 deaths.
East Khasi Hills has 430 active cases, West Jaintia Hills 84, Ri Bhoi 25, East Jaintia Hills 11, West Garo Hills 7, West Khasi Hills 4, South West Khasi Hills 3 and North Garo Hills 1.
On the other hand, 22, 833 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 16,678 had received the second dose, while 33,968 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 22,087 got the second dose as on Tuesday.
Moreover, 69,031 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 6,673 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the State.
