1 stabbed, another injured in Shillong & Mawsynram
Another person was stabbed in the city while an employee of the Meghalaya Basin Development Agency (MBDA) was also injured after he was assaulted in Mawsynram area in East Khasi Hills District on Sunday.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) GK Iangrai informed at around 9 am one Aditya Kumar (28) of Upper Mawprem near Shiv Mandir reportedly stabbed by some unknown miscreants with broken bottle at lower Mawprem and he received shoulder injury and admitted at Shillong Civil Hospital.
He said one Rajua Karim (31) of Phulbari, West Garo Hills District was also assaulted by some miscreants and was admitted in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) for treatment.
Karim is working for the MBDA and is presently residing at Sawlad, Madanrting for the last six years, he said.
Iangrai also informed that some non-tribal carpenters who were staying at Umtrew, Ri Bhoi ran away from their homes into the forest after they saw some local boys approaching in two buses on Sunday. However, the SP of Ri Bhoi informed that they have returned to their homes, he said.
He said information was also received from police control room, Shillong that unknown miscreants were pelting stones at vehicles plying through national highway at Puriang area (along the Shillong-Jowai road).
Miscreants also hurled a petrol bomb at the residential compound of one Lakshmi Bareh at Pynthorbah Block – 4, Shillong on Saturday night. Fortunately, no one was injured or property damaged in the incident, the senior police officer said.
Curfew has been imposed in certain parts of Shillong and whole of Sohra civil sub-division following the Ichamati clash incident which led to the killing of a KSU activist on Friday. Eight persons have been arrested so far.
As fallout of the incident, a non-tribal youth was stabbed to death in Iewduh market on Saturday. Nine other people were also stabbed by miscreants in the city on the same day.
Meanwhile, eight companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been sought for assisting the state in maintaining the law and order.
