  • 10 more die of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, death toll crosses 800-mark

    The death count in the state due to COVID-19 crossed the 800-mark after 10 persons succumbed to the viral infection on Thursday.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 7 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district, 2 from West Jaintia Hills district and 1 from East Garo Hills district.

    He said the state also detected 420 new cases. These include 126 in East Khasi Hills, 58 Ri Bhoi, 54 West Jaintia Hills, 49 West Garo Hills, 41 West Khasi Hills, 29 East Garo Hills, 21 South West Khasi Hills, 15 North Garo Hills, 8 South West Garo Hills and 9 East Jaintia Hills.

    Dr War also informed that 298 persons have also recovered from the viral infection.

    Of these, are from 58 East Khasi Hills, 69 West Garo Hills, 48 Ri Bhoi, 23 North Garo Hills, 21 East Garo Hills, 15 South West Garo Hills, 2 West Khasi Hills, 10 South Garo Hills, 45 West Jaintia Hills and 2 East Jaintia HIlls.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 46,878 COVID-19 cases out of which 4,424 are active cases, 41,647 recovered and 807 deaths.

    With 1,394 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi 591 cases and West Jaintia Hills with 580 cases.

    There are 554 cases in West Garo Hills, 286 East Garo Hills, 222 North Garo Hills, 184 South West Garo Hills, 251 South West Khasi Hills, 138 South Garo Hills, 143 West Khasi Hills and 81 East Jaintia Hills.
