13 routes including Orchid Resort Complex Umiam declared as “No Horn Zone”
In order to avoid inconvenience to patients and top govt machineries from the loud honking of vehicles plying in and around hospitals and govt offices, the Meghalaya Government has declared 13 places including one in Ri Bhoi District as “no horn zone” or “no honking zone.”
The Meghalaya Government in the exercise of power conferred under section 116 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, (Control Act 59 of 1988), has imposed “No Honking Zone” in the 13 locations or routes vide No.TPT. 26/ 2023/8 Dated 23rd June 2023 with immediate effect and until further orders.
The routes declared as “No Horn Zone” are along identified Medical Institutions or hospitals including Dr. H.Gordon Robert Robert Hospital, Jaiaw, Military Hospital, Shillong, Children’s Hospital, Pohkseh, Dispensary, Rynjah, Arbuthnot Road, Nazareth Hospital, Bethany Hospital, Nongrims Hills, Civil Hospital, Shillong.
The routes declared as No Horn Zone besides Government Institutions are Raj Bhavan, Meghalaya High Court, CM’s Bungalow, Oakland, Meghalaya Main Secretariat, Additional Secretariat and Orchid Resort complex, Ri- Bhoi.
