19 more die of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, death toll crosses 500-mark
The death count in the state due to COVID-19 crossed the 500-mark after 19 persons have succumbed to the viral infection on Tuesday.
According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 14 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district, 2 West Jaintia Hills district, 2 East Jaintia Hills district and 1 South Garo Hills district.
The state has also recorded 957 new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of active cases to 7,971.
Dr War said the new cases include 375 in East Khasi Hills, 194 Ri Bhoi, 90 West Garo Hills, 89 West Jaintia Hills, 58 South West Garo Hills, 49 East Jaintia Hills, 32 East Garo Hills, 29 West Khasi Hills, 21 North Garo Hills and 20 South Garo Hills.
He also informed that as many as 755 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.
Of these, 395 are from East Khasi Hills, 91 West Jaintia Hills, 91 East Jaintia Hills, 69 Ri Bhoi, 36 West Garo Hills, 34 West Khasi Hills, 19 South West Garo Hills, 7 South Garo Hills, 6 North Garo Hills, 4 South West Khasi Hills and 3 East Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 31,449 COVID-19 cases out of which 7,971 are active cases, 22,976 recovered and 502 deaths.
With 4259 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 1,312 cases.
There are 570 cases in West Garo Hills, 562 West Jaintia Hills, 341 South West Garo Hills, 221 East Jaintia Hills, 165 North Garo Hills, 160 West Khasi Hills, 148 South Garo Hills, 118 East Garo Hills and 115 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 5,44,951 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 5,13,502 were tested negative for the virus even as 1,301 persons are in institutional quarantine and 6,670 under home quarantine.
There are 1,19,950 entrants from outside the state.
29,116 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,460 had received the second dose, while 81,071 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,465 got the second dose as on Tuesday.
Moreover, 2,57,810 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 28,254 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
