2 more die of COVID-19, 159 new cases detected in Meghalaya
Two more persons have died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 167 on Wednesday.
54-year-old Sunita Limbu of Jhalupara, Shillong and Uginia Rymbai (52) of Saser, Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district passed away at the Shillong civil hospital on Tuesday, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
He said both the patients have died due to COVID-19 pneumonia and type I respiratory failure with ARDS.
A total of 159 people tested positive during the day, taking the total number of cases to 1,475, while 138 have recovered from the disease, pushing up the number of recoveries to 14,788.
Dr War said the new cases include 116 in East Khasi Hills district, 13 in West Khasi Hills district, 12 in Ri Bhoi district, 9 in West Garo Hills district, 4 in South Garo Hills district, 2 each in West Jaintia Hills district and East Jaintia Hills district and 1 in South West Garo Hills district.
Dr War informed that of 138 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 109 are from East Khasi Hills, 12 West Jaintia Hills, 8 Ri Bhoi, 5 West Khasi Hills, 2 West Garo Hills, and 2 East Jaintia Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 16,430 COVID-19 cases out of which 1,475 are active cases, 14,788 recovered and 167 deaths.
With 1,061 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 147 cases, 84 in West Jaintia Hills, 63 cases East Jaintia Hills, 60 West Garo Hills, 28 in West Khasi Hills, 14 in South West Khasi Hills, 5 East Garo Hills, 7 in South Garo Hills, 4 South West Garo Hills and 2 in North Garo Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,56,470 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,40,040 were tested negative for the virus even as 319 persons are in institutional quarantine and 1,156 under home quarantine.
There are 1,12,523 entrants from outside the state.
24,315 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 18,053 had received the second dose, while 40,060 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,389 got the second dose as on Wednesday.
Moreover, 1,31,299 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 15,057 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the State.
