20 lakh new beneficiaries to be brought under Orunudoi in Assam: CM Sarma
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that 20 lakh new beneficiaries will be covered under the Orunudoi scheme in the state following which the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme will go up ti 47 lakh.
“This time a new criteria will be adopted in the selection of beneficiaries because we came to know that some unexpected people were brought under this scheme under Orunudoi 2.0. This time we will link beneficiaries with Aadhaar and ration cards,” Sarma said addressing a press conference here.
The scheme which provides Rs 1250 to each beneficiary per month was started with 19 lakh beneficiaries.
“Under Orunudoi 2.0, we have covered 27 lakh beneficiaries. This time we will add 20 lakh beneficiaries. The matter was also discussed in the conference of the district commissioners. The selection of beneficiaries will begin from September,” he said.
Disclosing the decisions of the state cabinet meeting, the chief minister said the cabinet decided to urge the central government to name Rupshi Airport after Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma.
“However, the Assam Legislative Assembly has to decide in this regard as per the rules of the Central government. We will adopt a solution in the upcoming session of the state assembly in this connection,” Sarma said.
The cabinet gave its nod for the creation of 474 posts of secretaries in VCDCs and VDCs under the Sixth Schedule areas of the state.
“Of 474 secretary posts, 420 will be in BTC, 28 in Dima Hasao and 26 posts in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district. These VCDCs and VDCs work like panchayati raj institutions in the Sixth Schedule areas of the state,” Sarma also said.
The cabinet approved a revised estimate of Rs 3,030 crore for the under-construction bridge between Guwahati-New Guwahati, which was estimated at Rs 2,600 crore initially. The New Development Bank will fund the bridge project with the state’s share of Rs 164 crore. The bridge will be completed within June 2025.
The cabinet also decided to extend the retirement time of the vice chancellor of Assam Skill University to two years. A bill will be introduced in the state assembly in the coming session.
The cabinet also decided to provide ration cards to 6 lakh workers of the unorganised sector, who have registered their names in the e-shram portal till April 2023. “If they are genuine and qualify for getting ration cards, we will provide it to them,” the chief minister said.
More than 12 lakh migrant and unorganized sector workers registered in e-shram portal from 2021 to 2023. Of them 6 lakh have got ration cards.
The first phase interview for the selection of beneficiaries for CM’s Atmanirbhar Asom was already completed. The government will provide Rs 2 lakh to each young entrepreneur. In the first phase, the scheme will cover 30 thousand youths. In the next phase, the scheme will cover 70 thousand young people.
The interview will begin from August 16 to September 5 for the selection of candidates in the district level. On September 30, we will distribute the share of rs 2 lakh scheme to 30 thousand youth.
The forms for CM’s Nijut Moina Achoni will be distributed from August 7. 3 lakh girls will get benefit from this scheme.
The chief minister also said the state government will plant 3 crore saplings across the state from August 20.
