284 students enter India via Dawki Land Port amid Bangladesh Curfew
Due to the nationwide curfew in Bangladesh and the worsening situation over protest on quota reservation in government jobs, Indian students are returning through the Dawki Land Port and Tripura on Saturday.
Several students left Dhaka for Tripura on Saturday, with most entering through the Dawki Land Port.
The number of students entering India via Dawki Land Port includes 284 students: 115 Indians (including 8 from Meghalaya), 168 from Nepal, and one from Canada.
From Tripura, about 379 students arrived through ICP Srimantpur and ICP Agartala.
A total of 891 students arrived in India via Dawki International Land Port from July 18-20.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna have been assisting Indian nationals returning from Bangladesh.
The High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are coordinating with local authorities to facilitate safe travel to border crossing points along the India-Bangladesh International Border. The MEA is also working with civil aviation, immigration, land ports, and BSF authorities to ensure smooth passage for citizens.
The High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions are in regular contact with more than 4,000 students remaining in various universities in Bangladesh and are providing necessary assistance. Students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been assisted with their crossing into India upon request.
