3-day international workshop on philosophy of economics held at NEHU

The Department of Economics at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in collaboration with the Young Scholar Initiative (YSI) and ICSSR-NERC, is proud to announce the commencement of a pioneering three-day International Workshop on the Philosophy of Economics from June 12 to 14, at the U Kiang Nangbah Guest House Auditorium.
The workshop, inaugurated on June 12th, 2024, under the esteemed chairmanship of Prof. Moses M Naga, Dean of SEMIS, witnessed the gracious presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof Shukla emphasized the imperative of bringing economics closer to reality, marking a significant departure from traditional pedagogical approaches.
Addressing the audience, Prof Shukla commended the collaborative efforts of NEHU, YSI, and ICSSR-NERC in advancing the study and teaching of economics, particularly through a philosophical lens. He lauded the Department of Economics at NEHU for its unwavering commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.
Prof Biswambhara Mishra, Head of the Department of Economics at NEHU, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed speakers, participants, and students gathered for the workshop. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Muriel Dal Pont Legrand, Professor of Economic Sciences at Universite Cote d’Azur, France, setting the tone for insightful deliberations ahead.
Dr Rajib Sutradhar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, NEHU, and the local convenor of the event, introduced the workshop's agenda to the eager audience.
Dr Veronica Pala, Associate Professor of Economics at NEHU, expressed gratitude on behalf of the organizing committee.
Over the next three days, the workshop will delve into a myriad of critical issues, ranging from Indian Economic Thought to the economic philosophies of distinguished individuals such as Keynes, Schumpeter, Sraffa, Hegel, and Marx, alongside discussions on institutional economics. Dr. Rajib Sutradhar and Dr Mohd Murtaza, both Assistant Professors at the Department of Economics, NEHU, have played pivotal roles as local coordinators of the workshop.
As economics stands at a crossroads, the workshop endeavors to reignite a dialogue that integrates historical, philosophical, and practical dimensions into economic discourse, fostering a more holistic understanding of the discipline.
