3 drug traffickers arrested, heroin worth Rs 1 cr seized in Ri Bhoi

Three drug smugglers from Nagaland and Manipur were arrested along with heroin worth Rs 1 crore at Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi District on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip off, district police conducted a naka checking and intercepted one local taxi used by the drug smugglers to transport the illegal contraband, police said.

The three arrested persons have been identified as Kaisikamo Chawang from Peren District Nagaland, Adaliu Chawang from Manipur and Wijiulungtiu Panmei from Dimapur, they said.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that in a well-synchronized day-long operation, the Ri Bhoi police seized heroin worth Rs 1 crore, 3 mobiles and nabbed the 3 notorious drug traffickers from Nagaland and Manipur.

District police chief Giri Prasad informed that a case under NDPS Act has been registered against the trio and further investigation is on.
