3 held for smuggling cattle
Three Indian smugglers were apprehended along with 54 cattle worth Rs 9.76 lakh from along the international border with Bangladesh on Monday.
A statement issued by the BSF said the smugglers and seized cattle were handed over to the state police for further legal action.
It also informed that as many as 29 Indian smugglers and 3 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended while items worth Rs 5.24 crore were seized from along the international border during the month of January.
The items seized include 796 cattle worth Rs 1,30,64,300, 1,65,751 kgs dry peas at Rs 1,33,28,994, 22 vehicles at Rs 1,58,40,287, miscellaneous at Rs 36,604,944.
Sh U K Nayal, DIG PRO BSF Meghalaya said, “In view of increasing smuggling attempts BSF has readjusted and strengthened its security apparatus on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to foil the nefarious design of trans- border criminals”.
