3 NEHU students hospitalized in Shillong Civil Hospital
Three students of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) were admitted in the Shillong civil hospital on Thursday, after they fell weak following their participation in the ongoing indefinite hunger strike protest against the alleged failure of the vice chancellor to terminate the registrar and deputy registrar.
These include general secretary of the North Eastern Hill University Students Union (NEHUSU) Toniho Kharsati and organizing secretary of the KSU NEHU Unit Aiboklang Nongsteng. Earlier, a female student was also taken to the hospital.
The leaders have maintained that they join back the protest once they are discharged from the hospital.
Many students are taking part in the indefinite hunger strike organized by the NEHUSU and backed by the KSU NEHU Unit for almost 72 hours.
They have also announced a total lockdown of the university as a mark of protest against the failure to remove the Registrar, Deputy Registrar (Academics) alleging that their appointments were “illegal”.
