3 sex workers along with 3 clients held in Shillong
Three sex workers and three clients were arrested from Shillong city.
A raid was conducted by the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) of East Khasi Hills district on Tuesday night following complaints received that sex workers have been operating in the Barik-Dhankheti road as many people were seen coming in vehicles as clients.
During the raid, 3 sex workers along with 3 clients were apprehended, district police chief Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He informed that a case has been registered at the Laitumkhrah police station under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and legal action taken up.
“Henceforth, to prevent this sort of activity in the area apart from booking sex workers, clients also apprehended in the area will face legal action under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Meghalaya Police Act,” the SP said.
