30 youths to be train as Home Health Aide Caregiver in Jaintia Hills
“Home Health Aide Caregiver” the first of its kind skill training programme in Jaintia Hills region was launched on Wednesday at the Head office of the Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) in Salaroh, Jowai.
The training programme is funded by the office of Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), Government of Meghalaya.
Delivering her keynote address, Director of MCSWA, Dr. Mrs. JN Shullai informed on the objective of the skill training on the job role of Home Health Aide/Caregiver.
She said that they will impart training to the selected candidates on the Home Health Aide/Caregiver skill to fill or bridge the gap between the demand for Homebased health care aides for patients who do not necessarily require hospitalization.
She further said the programme aim to provide qualified, skilled, and non-skilled services focusing on preventative, rehabilitative, and therapeutic care in the home environment.
She also said to provide home health care services that promote the patients’ value of life by minimizing patient illness and disability.
She added to maximizing patient’s potential level of independence and restoring, maintaining, and promoting patient health.
After a targeted mobilization drive in various localities, a batch of 30 trainees was identified, counselled, and oriented on the role of a Home Health Aide (HHA) from various localities of Jowai. These trainees will undergo 360 hours of training at the MCSWA training centre.
Inaugurating the programme, Danida Dehlia Syngai, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District appreciated the efforts of the organization for conducting a skill training on the job role HHA which she felt was the need of the hour. She also expressed that through this skill training unemployed youth of the district will get an opportunity to provide for themselves and make them employable in the respective skill sector industry.
Dr. Ms. N. Nongpluh, Medical Superintendent of Dr. Norman Tunnel Mission Hospital said the course will boost the healthcare system in the district as they will be able to provide services in a home setting for patients/individuals who do not require hospitalization.
Dame H Pde, Treasurer & member of Synjuk ki Waheh Chnong Jowai, said that it was a noble initiative for the NGO to organize such skill training as this will benefit the citizens of Jowai at large especially the aged, or chronically ill patients who require such services at home and at the same time provide employment to the youth of Jowai.
Skill Development Officer, MSSDS, West Jaintia Hills District, Lambor Suchen emphasized on the importance of skill training as a means to provide job-related knowledge to the worker and to impart skills among the workers systematically so that they may learn quickly.
