38 candidates file nomination for 1st phase of Lok Sabha polls, 26 today
Altogether 38 candidates have filed nominations for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections slated on April 19.
Of 38 candidates, 26 filed nominations on Wednesday, the last date for filing nominations for the first phase of the poll.
According to the information provided by the CEO’s office, 3 candidates filed nominations in Dibrugarh, 5 in Jorhat, 9 in Lakhimpur, 9 in Sonitpur and 12 candidates filed nominations for Kaziranga constituency till Wednesday.
The scrutiny of the nominations will be done on Thursday and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 30.
BJP candidate and sitting MP Topon Kumar Gogoi filed his nomination before the returning officer on Wednesday.
Gogoi was accompanied by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pradesh BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, AGP president and state minister Atul Bora and other senior leaders.
Apart from Gogoi Ekmot Sanatan Bharat Dal candidate Arun Chandra Handique, Independent candidates Raj Kumar Duarah, and Baba Kurmi filed their papers on Wednesday.
Former minister and BJP candidate Ranjit Dutta filed the nomination for Sonitpur Lok Sabha constituency at the office of the returning officer in Tezpur on Wednesday.
Dutta was accompanied by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pradesh BJP president Bhabesh Kalita and other senior leaders of the party.
Apart from Dutta, 8 other candidates filed their papers for the 11-Sonitpur constituency on Wednesday.
The first nomination was filed on March 22 by Indian National Congress candidate Premlal Ganju followed by Independent candidate Pradip Bhandari on March 26.
A total of 7 candidates filed their papers on the last date of filing of nomination on Wednesday. Of them Voters Party International (VPI) candidate Kameshwar Swargiary, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Rishiraj Kaundinya, Independent candidate Mahendra Orang, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) candidate Raju Deuri, Bahujan Maha Party candidate Md Alam Ali and Gana Suraksha Party candidate Rinky Roy.
BJP candidate Kamakhya Prasad Tasaa filed his nomination paper for the Kaziranga constituency before the returning officer in Golaghat on Wednesday morning.
Apart from him Assam Jana Morcha candidate Selim Ahmed, Independent candidates Dilwara Begum Choudhury, Abdul Haque, Tridip Jyoti Bhuyan, Jyotiranjan Goswami, VPI candidate Anima Deka, RPI (A) Fazile Ahmed Mazumdar and RPI candidate Saleh Ahmed Mazumdar filed their papers on Wednesday.
Indian National Congress candidate Uday Shankar Hazarika filed his paper before the office of the returning officer in North Lakhimpur on Wednesday.
Four other candidates also filed their papers on Wednesday.
In Dibrugarh, AAP candidate Manaoj Dhanowar filed his nomination before the returning officer on Wednesday.
