4 arrested for drug trafficking in Shillong
At least four persons were arrested for their involvement in drug trafficking.
East Khasi Hills district superintendent of police, Sylvester Nongtynger on Sunday informed a truck driver Mithan Nama (31) of Gopalpur, North Tripura was arrested after suspected Yaba tablets were recovered from the ceiling of the cabin of his truck.
He said the truck (NL 01 0224), which was heading to Tripura from Guwahati, was intercepted by ANTF team along with Diengpasoh police at the Shillong by-pass.
During search, one jute bag containing 5 sealed packets of suspected Yaba tablets were recovered from the ceiling of the cabin of the truck. Preliminary test was conducted which indicated positive for meta amphetamines. The total weight of the tablets is 5.076 kg.
The truck was loaded with IMFL beer and was on its way from Guwahati to Agartala.
A case has been registered for further investigation to unravel the racket, the SP said.
In another incident, three persons were detained by locality people from 3rd Mile.
On receiving information, the ANTF team immediately rushed to the spot to attend to the case as public had gathered.
On conducting body search one golden tin, 4 pieces puria (wrapped in a piece of paper) which weighed 0.65 grms suspected to be heroin, were recovered from the possesion of Manbhalang Dympep (25) of Laban Last Stop while cash Rs 45,000 from peddling drugs was recovered from the possession of Pheryl Wahlang (26), girlfriend of Manbhalang Dympep .One buyer Biangbor Nongsiej (24) of 3rd Mile was also apprehended who admitted to be a drug consumer and came to buy heroin from them .
The SP said that a case under NDPS will be accordingly taken up.
