4 Bangladeshi nationals try to enter India illegally in Karimganj, pushed back
Assam Police and Border Security Force (BSF) pushed back four Bangladeshi nationals who tried to enter India illegally near the Indo-Bangla border in Karimganj district in the wee hours of Monday.
The incident took place at around 1.30 am on Monday.
In a post on X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote: “This morning at 1:30 AM, Bangladeshi citizens identified as Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah attempted to enter India through the Karimganj sector of the India-Bangladesh border. However, police effectively intervened at the zero point and promptly”
“Our brave @assampolice personnel are on vigil 24/7 along with personnel of @BSF_India to maintain tranquillity and sanctity of our International border with Bangladesh in light of the recent developments in the neighbouring country,” Sarma said in the post.
The four have been identified as Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah.
Police noticed their activity and intervened at the zero point and promptly repelled them, preventing their unauthorized entry.
Seven Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian facilitators were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police at a checkpoint in Pynursla, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya on Sunday.
In view of ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, BSF Meghalaya has assessed and heightened security along the Indo-Bangladesh border adopting a multi-tier domination strategy, they said.
Last week, close to 1000 Bangladeshi nationals tried to enter India in the Cooch Bihar district of West Bengal. However, they were stopped by the BSF.
The attacks on minorities have increased in Bangladesh since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh interim government’s head Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus on Saturday called for an end to attacks on the minority communities in the country and asked for protection to all Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist families.
