4 brave guardians of Kaziranga honoured on International Tiger Day
Four frontline staff of the Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) were awarded for their extraordinary bravery during a ceremony on the occasion of Global Tiger Day in New Delhi on Monday.
The awardees included Gagan Kakati, constable of Assam Forest Protection Force, Bokakhat Range, Sunil Hazarika, constable of Assam Forest Protection Force, Agoratoli Range, Debajit Doley, constable of Assam Forest Protection Force, Bokakhat Range and Mintu Das, boatman of Agoratoli Range.
The awards were given for their extraordinary performance under the category “wildlife protection and anti-poaching activities”.
These individuals were honoured for their extraordinary bravery efforts when on May 11th, they successfully thwarted a Rhino poaching attempt, demonstrating proactive quick action and recovery of weapons from poachers.This incident serves as a strong message of zero tolerance towards poachers and any intruders attempting to exploit the park’s rich biodiversity. Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve extends its gratitude to all the dedicated personnel who put their lives on the line to ensure the safety and conservation of wildlife.
July 29 also marks the death anniversary of Mahir Patir Miri (1903-1939), who was the first Assamese ACF in the imperial Forest Service. He dedicated his life towards preserving the then Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary which ultimately led to the birth of Kaziranga National Park. A series of programmes was organised to mark the occasion on Monday.
