4 regional parties to launch a united platform to oust BJP in 2026
Four major regional political parties- Jatiya Dal Asom, Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) will come under one umbrella to work in unison to oust the ruling BJP in the upcoming elections.
Leaders of the four regional parties held a two-hour-long meeting at the conference hall of Assam Khadi and Gramudyog Board at Chandmari here to discuss their strategy for the upcoming panchayat election and by-elections to five assembly constituencies.
The meeting decided to strengthen the regional forces by uniting all four parties under one platform.
The meeting also resolved to hold a political convention in this regard soon.
A convenors committee with the presidents of four parties was constituted for coordination among the political parties.
The meeting was attended by Jatiya Das Assam president and Rajya Sabha MP ajit Kumar Bhuyan, working president Diganta Konwar, general secretary Pranab Jyoti Chetia, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and publicity secretary Jiaur Rahman, APHLC president Jones Ingty kathar and Dipen Rongpi, Raaijor Dal president Bhasko D Saikia and general secretary Russel Hussain.
The four parties will publish a common minimum programme shortly.
“The regional parties have decided today that we will launch a united platform of regional parties to strengthen them and continue beyond 2026,” MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said.
“We have to ensure that Assam’s interests have to be protected at any post. We had organised a get-together on May 22 following which we have received widespread response from the people across the state. We will work for anti-people and communal activities in the state,” Bhuyan said.
“AJP has proposed a merger with Raijor Dal. But now everybody has stressed the formation of this platform. It is done so that opposition votes will not be divided,” Bhuyan also said.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said regional parties will move forward together. “It was a formal meeting. We discussed what happened in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls and what to do in the future. We will be under one umbrella.”
“The regional parties have occupied 35 per cent of Lok Sabha seats in this election. We are not so powerful, but we started to strengthen the regional forces,” Gogoi added.
