4024 villages in Meghalaya provided with 100% household tap water
More than 5.2 lakhs rural households have been provided with functional households tap water connections under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
“In just a few years, Meghalaya has made tremendous progress. From only 0.72% coverage in 2019, the state government has covered 81% houses till January 2025, which is above the national average,” Governor CH Vijayashankar said while addressing the Assembly on Friday.
“Further, a total of 4,024 villages are provided with 100% household tap water connections making them ‘Har Ghar Jal’ villages,” he said.
In areas where water sources are drying up due to climate change, the governor said, “the government is taking steps to rejuvenate them and create more reservoirs.”

According to him, a key pillar of the JJM is ensuring the quality of water supplied to citizens.
The State’s first NABL accredited state level water quality testing laboratory have been established at district and sub-divisional levels, to ensure improved quality of drinking water.
Further, large water supply schemes are being implemented in Shillong, New Shillong, Williamnagar, Nongstoin, Ampati and Tura.
