Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by Ri Bhoi police for illegally entering India and impersonating as Indian citizens by producing forged documents like Aadhaar cards.
Identified as Sahin Akhtar (31), Mozibor Rahman (42), Prasanto Das (26), Suma Akhtar (27), Mamadur Rahman (32), the Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended from a vehicle (AS01SC-4410) during a naka checking near Petrol Pump, Mawtnum, opposite to Excelencia Restaurant at NH-6 on the Shillong to Guwahati Lane.
On asking the occupants to identify themselves and to show proof of their identity, they could not provide any identity proof except for two of them who showed their identity as Sahin Khan, S/O Khaer Khan, 743/76-1st Floor, Industrial estate, Bommasandra, Bengaluru, Karnataka-560099 and 2. Rony Khan, S/O Abdul Hai, #40 3rd Floor, 2nd Cross, Ashok Puram, Bangalore North, Bengaluru, Karnataka-560022. The other three of them could not produce any documents and they identified themselves as Prasanto Das, Suma Akhtar and Mahmadul Rahman.
On verifying the documents, police found that the documents they produced are forged documents, prima facie, due to the fact that the Aadhar cards shown by them could not be verified in UIDAI which gives doubt to the genuineness of the Aadhaar cards.
Thereafter, they were detained due to reasonable suspicion and brought to the Police station, Nongpoh for proper verification. That the Aadhar Card and other documents shown by them are forged which they used as genuine for the purpose of cheating the authorities by impersonating.
During further examination, they admitted that they are Bangladeshi nationals.
District police chief V Rathore said, “During examination, they revealed that they have entered into India illegally through Cheragaon, Shella, without any valid documents. They entered by paying Rs 16000 for each person to the middleman known as Hussain (Tunu Miah) having mobile number +8801309809842 who dropped them till the road on the Indian side. And one vehicle (number not known) which was in contact with the Bangladeshi middleman Hussain was waiting to transport them to Shillong.”
Further, he said that the driver of the car who ferried the Bangladeshi nationals to Shillong contacted the driver of Vehicle No. AS01SC-4410 and handed them over in 101 area, Upper Shillong. The Bangladeshi nationals also revealed that one person’s name not known having mobile number 7099684445 was waiting to pick them up from Guwahati Railway station to Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
“The fact that the drivers of the two cars which ferried these Bangladeshis from Shella border to Shillong and then the other vehicle picking them from 101 area, Shillong which is away from the normal passenger embarking and disembarking place shows their ill intention/motive to commit a crime by conspiring with the Bangladeshi middle man to facilitate the transportation of these Bangladeshi Nationals to illegally enter India without attracting attention of the law enforcing agencies,” the SP stated.
