5 withdraw nomination, 47 candidates contesting in 4 seats for LS polls in Assam third phase
Five candidates have withdrawn their nominations on the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls slated on May 7.
Now, 47 candidates are in the fray for the third phase of polls in Guwahati, Dhubri, Barpeta and Kokrajhar.
Of them 12 are in the fray in Kokrajhar, 13 in Dhubri, 14 in Barpeta and 8 candidates are contesting from Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency.
3 candidates withdrew their papers in Kokrajhar and 2 withdrew their nominations in Dhubri on Monday.
Three candidates have withdrawn their nominations in Kokrajhar on the last day for withdrawal of nomination on Monday.
With this, 12 candidates are in the fray in the constituency.
Altogether 16 candidates filed nominations for Kokrajhar and sitting MP Naba Kumar Sarania’s candidature was rejected by the returning officer due to an invalid ST caste certificate.
Those who have withdrawn their nomination are: Sailendra Nath Brahma (Independent), Nandadev Brahma (Independent) and Ghanashyam Das (GSP).
Two independent candidates Selina Sultana and Ajmal Ali withdrew their nominations from Dhubri constituency.
During the scrutiny of nomination conducted on April 20, the nominations of eight candidates were rejected in these four constituencies.
The nominations of four candidates were rejected in the Dhubri constituency, 1 in Barpeta, and the nominations of two candidates were rejected in the Guwahati constituency.
In the Guwahati constituency, Nayan Das (Bharatiya National Janata Dal) and Aripta Choudhury (Independent) nominations were rejected.
With this, eight candidates are in the fray from Guwahati; They are: Bijuli Kalita Medhi (BJP), Mira Borthakur Goswami, Samad Choudhury (BGP), Sejon Goyari (BMP), Amitabh Sarma (Akom Sanatan Bharat Dal), Deepak Kumar Boro (VPI), Kazi Nekib Ahmed (Independent) and Col Gokul Chandra Singha (Independent).
In the Barpeta constituency, the nomination of an independent candidate was rejected and now 14 candidates are in the fray from this Lok Sabha seat.
In Dhubri constituency, the nominations of four candidates were rejected and now 15 candidates are in the fray for the third phase of polls.
