6 injured after tower crane collapses in Dalmia cement plant at Umrangso
Six workers were injured, one of them seriously after a tower crane collapsed at a cement plant of Dalmia Cement Ltd at Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday night.
Of the six injured persons, one has been shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), while five others are undergoing treatment in HAAM Hospital in Hojai, Dima Hasao superintendent of police (SP) Mayank Kumar said.
The condition of the five injured workers is stable, they said.
The incident took place at the Line-2 project site of Umrangso at around 6.40 pm.
According to eyewitness accounts, the boom suddenly fell as the crane was lifting materials.
The cause of the incident is not known. Officials of Dalmia Cement Ltd are not available for comment.
“Rescue operations have been completed and no worker has been trapped inside the plant,” Kumar said.
“The situation is currently stable, and an additional district commissioner is monitoring the situation,” the SP added.
Meanwhile, an official statement of Dalmia Cement North East Ltd stated that a crane at the Umrangso project site suffered a malfunction, due to which six contract workmen were injured. All injured persons were immediately rushed to the nearest HAMM Hospital in Hojai and all of them are now out of danger.
“We are fully seized of the matter and taking requisite actions including taking due care of injured personnel for their recovery,” the statement added.
