6 MDCs decide to continue support to UDA-led EC in KHADC
SHILLONG: The differences within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today was amicably resolved with disgruntled members reaffirming their support to the Teinwell Dkhar-led executive committee.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in the official residence of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma here on Tuesday night.
Before this, the MDCs of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) led by the National People’s Party (NPP) were also seen attending a meeting at the office chamber of the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong.
The meeting was also attended by the chief minister, district council affairs (DCA) minister James K Sangma and others. However, no one was ready to open up on what was discussed inside the closed door meeting with the state leaders.
Earlier, six MDCs of the PDA have decided to withdraw support to the UDA led by the United Democratic Party (UDP) and submitted their resignation to chief executive member Teinwell Dkhar as a mark of resentment on the decision over the central fund.
After the UDA meeting, the KHADC chief informed that the meeting was attended by all members of the alliance and announced that the matter has been amicably resolved.
He said the six MDCs have reconsidered their decision to withdraw support to the executive committee.
“The meeting was a very fruitful one as all the members have come to an understanding. We have decided to forget everything and work as a team from now onwards,” Dkhar told reporters.
Asked, PDA chairman and Nongkrem MDC Lambor Malngiang said, “In a big family, misunderstanding will always be there but what is important is that we have come to an understanding and we have decided to start afresh.”
Malngiang, who is also the chairman of the state planning board, further informed that a coordination committee between the two sub-alliances – PDA and Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), which comprises of the UDP and HSPDP – was also constituted to look into the grievances of the members.
“We have also reiterated our commitment to ensure the smooth functioning of the EC led by Dkhar,” he said.
