6 NIPER, one USTM faculty amongst Stanford’s 2024 list of world’s top 2% scientists
Six faculty members from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati, along with a faculty member from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), have been recognized in Stanford University’s prestigious “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list for the year 2024. This global list, published by Elsevier, acknowledges the contributions of leading researchers across various fields.
Being included in this comprehensive ranking reflects the significant research output and impact of these scientists, marking an important achievement for both institutions and the Indian academic community.
This achievement marks the fifth consecutive year that NIPER Guwahati faculty have ranked within the top 2% of scientists globally, as per the rankings released by the renowned US-based institution. The selection is based on a comprehensive evaluation of published quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals and the cumulative years dedicated to research efforts.
The honoured faculty members include Dr Sanjay Banerjee, Associate Dean (Academics) and Associate Professor of Biotechnology; Dr Amit Alexander, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics; Dr. Subham Banerjee, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics; Dr. Vikas Anand, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology (Formulations); Dr. Bidya Dhar Sahu, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology; and Dr Saurabh Kumar, Assistant Professor of Medical Devices.
Dr USN Murty, Director of NIPER Guwahati, congratulated the faculty members on this remarkable achievement, stating, “This is a moment of immense pride for our entire NIPER Guwahati community. It reaffirms our commitment to research excellence and indicates that we are progressing on the right path towards advancing pharmaceutical science for the betterment of society.”
From USTM, Dr Faizuddin Ahmed, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, has been named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists for 2024 by Stanford University, USA.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Dr Faizuddin Ahmed has secured a place on Stanford University’s esteemed list of the world’s leading scientists. His pioneering research is primarily centred on Theoretical Physics, with a particular focus on General Relativity and quantum mechanics.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ahmed has made substantial contributions to the field, publishing 165 research papers in distinguished Scopus-indexed journals, including the European Physical Journal C, Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, Scientific Reports, Annals of Physics, European Physical Journal Plus, Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, and more.
Expressing his gratitude upon receiving this prestigious honor, Dr. Ahmed said, “It is truly humbling to be recognized by Stanford University for the fifth year in a row. This achievement highlights the significance of dedicated research and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. I am deeply thankful for the support I have received from USTM and my colleagues.”
Stanford University’s highly regarded list, compiled using Scopus data from Elsevier, provides a standardized benchmark for recognizing scientists who have made a profound impact on their fields. The list considers various citation metrics, including the h-index, co-authorship, and adjusted citation counts, to ensure a fair and comprehensive assessment of research contributions.
The “Top 2% Scientists” list is determined by several key metrics, including the composite C-score, field and sub-field percentiles, and both career-long and single-year impact. This prestigious recognition signifies global acknowledgement of research excellence, often leading to increased opportunities for funding, collaborations, and international speaking engagements.
