6 persons arrested with 1500 kg explosives in East Jaintia Hills
In a major crackdown against illegal smuggling of explosives, East Jaintia Hills police seized 1525 (One Thousand Five Hundred And Twenty Five) KGs of Explosives and arrested six persons.
On 02.12.2020, around 7 pm reliable source information was received about one white bolero bearing Assam Registration No loaded with explosives moving somewhere from 4 Kilo area enroute towards Kongong and onwards. An alert was immediately sounded regarding the same and the said vehicle was intercepted at Kongong EJHs under Lad Rymbai OP. On searching the vehicle, it was found to be loaded with 10 Cartons filled with 250 KGs of Explosives (2000 Gelatin Sticks), 1000 live Detonators.
In this regard a team consisting of DSP (HQ), DSP (crime) and other officers arrested two persons occupying the said vehicle and on their leading 4 more persons were arrested from Umpleng, Mokympad and 5 Kilo who are suspected to be involved in supplying the explosives to the two persons noted above.
The arrested persons then led the police team to a concealed place at 5 Kilo under Khliehriat Police Station from where the explosives were suspected to have been loaded to the noted Bolero. A search of the said place was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and from where 51 cartons loaded with approximately 1275 Kgs of Explosive (10200 Gelatine Sticks) , 5000 Live Denators and 8 Rolls of Cordtex (Fuse) suspected to be of the same kind used in the recent 4 Kilo blast were Seized.
East Jaintia Hills Police have registered a case under Explosives Act and other relevant sections of law, and a probe on the same is on to see possible links with the recent blast at 4 Kilo since material seized is of same the kind used in the said blast.
