6 UDP joins NPP ahead of Langrin by-poll
SHILLONG: The working president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Ranikor Circle along with five members on Friday joined the National People’s Party (NPP).
This came just ahead of the KHADC bye-election to the Langrin seat, which is scheduled to be held on February 28.
Speaking to reporters here, UDP-Ranikor Circle working president Mighter Marwein said that they have decided to quit the UDP after he was denied party ticket.
“The party has instead given the ticket to the sitting legislator of Ranikor Pius Marwein despite of them talking about one man one post,” he said.
The bye-election is necessitated following the death of UDP MDC Nasar Marwein on October 28 last year.
Mighter has also assured to work hard to ensure victory to the NPP in the upcoming bye-election.
The others who joined the NPP include John Rngad, B Tongwah, L Wahlang, Marcus Marak and Paul Sangma.
All the UDP members were welcomed by the NPP South West Khasi Hills president Kitborlang Nongrem in a meeting held at the party’s office here.
