68 cattle rescued on Indo-Bangla border
A total of 68 cattle were rescued by the Border Security Force (BSF) from different locations on the Indo-Bangla border while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
The cattle were tethered covertly in a forest area close to the international boundary.
BSF acting on specific tip-off cordoned off the cattle dumping area and seized all the cattle, although miscreants/smugglers resisted by using abusive language and pelted stones on BSF troops. BSF Meghalaya seized more than 100 cattle heads in the last 48 hours. Increase in demand for cattle in Bangladesh may be attributed to upcoming ‘Eid-ul-Fitr’ in the month of May and ‘Eid-ul-Adha’ in July. The seized cattle were handed over to concerned police outposts for further disposal.
The Border Security Force has identified vulnerable routes/patches used frequently by cattle smugglers and are dominating the sensitive areas by deploying additional manpower and gadgets. BSF is maintaining a high degree of alertness on the International Border to maintain National security as well as to prevent all kinds of trans-border crimes and illegal activities.
