72.10% polling in Assam’s 5 seats in first phase of LS poll, Jorhat record highest
The overall turnouts in the five Parliamentary Constituencies of Assam, which went to poll in the first phase of voting on Friday is 72.10 percent with the possibility of touching 80 percent as reports from many interior polling stations are still.
Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency recorded the highest voter turnout with 77.45 per cent while Lakhimpur recorded the lowest 68.85 per cent voter turnout. Dibrugarh Parliamentary Constituency recorded a 71.05 per cent turnout, Kaziranga 71.57 per cent and Sonitpur recorded a 71.34 per cent voter turnout during the first phase voting.
Union minister and BJP candidate in Dibrugarh Parliamentary Constituency, Sarbananda Sonowal cast his vote at the Sahitya Sabha Polling Booth in Dibrugarh town. Sonowal is locked in a contest with former AASU leader and United Opposition Forum candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi. The Congress did not field any candidate in Dibrugarh as they supported Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP)’s president Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency recorded the highest voter turnout with 77.96 per cent where Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi is in a tough fight with BJP candidate Topon Kumar Gogoi cast his vote at Nagahat LP School in Charaidei district.
Sonitpur Parliamentary Constituency recorded 71.34% voter turnout BJP candidate Ranjit Dutta is fighting against Congress candidate Premlal Ganju and AAP candidate Rishiraj Kaundinya Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency recorded 68.85 per cent voter turnout and the candidates are BJP candidate and sitting MP Pradan Baruah and Congress candidate Uday Shankar Hazarika
Kaziranga Parliamentary Constituency recorded 71.57 per cent where BJP candidate for Kaziranga and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa is contesting against Congress candidate Roselina Tirkicast.
