73rd Independence Day celebrated with pomp and gaiety
JOWAI: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated in a very benefiting manner at Jrisalein Playground Chutwakhu, Jowai.
Minster of Fisheries Department, Comingone Ymbon unfurled the National Flag accompanied with the National Anthem and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 33 contingent comprising of District Police Force, Home Guard, Thomas Jones NCC, Government Girls NCC, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts, Jowai, Meghalaya Bharat Guides, Jowai and 26 schools led by Parade Commander DSP Donkupar Moksha, MPS, and 2nd in command SI Ibashisha Kharpran.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Comingone Ymbon reminded the enthusiastic citizens of the sacrificed of the great Leaders and highlighted of the various achievements and development of the State. He appeals to all to work for peace and development of the district and state as a whole.
The Minister later distributed prize to winners of the Marching contingent, Khimumsniang Secondary School was adjourned as winner and Thomas Jones Synod College and Seinraij Higher Secondary School as the first and Second Runner-ups. Trophies were also awarded to best cultural item performed, the first prize was awarded to Dulong Secondary School, Second Thomas Jones Synod College and third place Baite Cultural Organisation, Jowai.
The Officer Club, West Jaintia Hills District had felicitated Mr. Khamphereiei Pala with a Cash of Rs. 67,000 as a financial assistance for pursuing his MBBS studies. He secured 8th position in the HSSLC Examination (Science) 2019 a student of North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Jowai. He has passed the NEET Examination and waiting for a seat for MBBS studies.
Other highlight of the celebration include patriotic songs and dance performed by the students and from various locality.
As part of the Independence day celebration and to create awareness to the public on the road safety, the West Jaintia Hills District Executive Force and the District Legal Service Authority West Jaintia Hills supported by Royal Enfield Riders of the Meghalaya Police had organised a Freedom Ride on the theme “Obey Traffic Rules- Ride with care, Life has no spare.” flagged off by the District Session Judge E. Kharumnuid from Jowai Police Station, the Riders took the route from Jowai Police Station towards Phramer , Jowai bypass to Mowkyndur forest check gate and back to Jowai Police Reserve.
Independence day was also celebrated at Shangpung at Hula Playground Moosyiem, Shangpung. Sohra MLA Gavin Mylliem hoisted the National. Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 24 contingent led by Parade Commander Shidor S Passah. Drills and Patriotic Songs and dances were performed by the students.
