74th Republic Day celebrated in West Jaintia Hills
The 74th Republic Day was celebrated in West Jaintia Hills with great enthusiasm.
In Jowai, Deputy Commissioners of West Jaintia Hills Batlang S Sohliya, IAS unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute to the tune of the National Anthem led by JNV School, Mukhla and Q C Springside Secondary School, Jowai at Jrisalen Playground.
Addressing the gathering Batlang Sohliya extended his greetings to the people on this momentous occasion.
21 contingents participated in the Republic day ceremonial parade which includes District Police Jowai, NCC contingents from Government Girls Higher Secondary Schools, Jowai, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides, Jowai and 18 schools. JNV School, Mukhla was awarded the First Prize, the Second Prize went to Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jowai and the third prize to St. Mary Mazzarello Higher Secondary School, Jowai
The Tableaus were presented by 13 departments of the District highlighting and projecting the various schemes and achievements of those departments. The office of the District Sericulture Office, Jowai was awarded the first prize while the District Horticulture Officer, Jowai and District Commerce & Industries Centre, Jowai bagged the Second and third prize respectively.
Other highlights of the day include songs and dances performed by students and localities of Jowai Town, distribution of Food package and gifts to Childrens’Home by the government departments and social organisations and also a Final Football Match played between Demthring SC and Sabah Muswang SC at Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Ladthalaboh.
While in Amlarem Civil Sub-Division Republic Day was celebrated at Amlarem Government Lower Primary School Playground, Amlarem. The National Flag was unfurled by JU Kharpuri, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Incharge Amlarem Civil Sub-Division and took the Rashtriya Salute to the tune of the National Anthem led by Mang Hai Ryum Higher Secondary School, Amlarem.
3 contingents took part in the parade including the Police Department and two schools. Riwar Jaintia Church of God Secondary School, Ladjaplem was awarded with the first prize and Ka Syiem Jingsuk Higher Secondary School, Amlarem bagged the second prize. It is then followed by Tableaus presentation from 4 departments of the Sub-Divisional Office where the first prize was awarded to Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer, Amlarem, and the Second and Third prize was awarded to Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer, Amlarem and Sub-Divisional Officer PHE, Amlarem respectively. Cultural Songs and dances were also performed by the students on this day.
Hima Shangpung, Laskein C&RD Block also celebrated the 74th Republic day at Hula Playground, Moosyiem, Shangpung. Laskein Block Development Officer B Niang unfurled the National Flag and addressed the gathering. ADIPR
