77th Independence Day celebrated in West Jaintia Hills
West Jaintia Hills District celebrated the 77th Independence Day along with the rest of the country, with great joy and enthusiasm.
In Jowai, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the 29 contingents, including the District Police Jowai, NCC cadets from Thomas Jones Synod College and Kiang Nangbah Government College, Meghalaya Bharat Scout, Meghalaya Bharat Guides, and 24 schools. The Parade was commanded by Inspector Deep Khatri, the Parade Commander, and Shri Sub Inspector Yowezer Challam, the 2nd IC Parade Commander.
While addressing the citizens, Deputy CM Sniawbhalang highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the State Government and extended warm greetings to all.
He later distributed prizes to the winners of the marching contingents, with St. Mary Mazzarello Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Jaintia Higher Secondary School, Jowai, and St. Michael & All Angels’ Secondary School, Jowai, being declared as the winner, first runner-up, and second runner-up respectively.
Deputy CM Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar also distributed Sanction orders to Self Help Groups. To empower women through the SHG Network, MRB is sanctioning 144 SHG loans amounting to Rs. 609 crores, and MCAB is sanctioning 28 SHG loans amounting to Rs. 32 Lakhs.
Awards were also presented in various categories in the health sector. Under the Kayakalp Award, Jarina PHC was recognized as the Best Winning Public Health Centre (PHC), Iooksi PHC as a commendable PHC, and Loomkyrwiang Urban Public Health Centre as the Best Winning Urban Primary Health Centre.
The Kayakalp scheme emphasizes creating a clean environment to enhance healing, accelerate recovery, and improve patients’ experiences at health facilities. The scheme encourages and incentivizes public health facilities in the country to showcase their commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control practices.
Awards were also given to outstanding Sub Centres for their exemplary work in improving health services. Psiar Sub Center was recognized for its work in Reproductive & Child Health Indicators, while Mynska Sub Centre was acknowledged for its efforts in addressing Communicable and Non-Communicable disease indicators.
Nartiang PHC was awarded under the MHIS & PMJAY scheme.
Certificate of appreciation was given to DH Pde, MPS (Retd) and Waheh Chnong Chilliang Raij and President of Jaintia Fishing & Environment Protection Association, Jowai, for their active involvement in cleaning drives, tree plantation drives, awareness campaigns regarding road safety during Road Safety Week, and efforts against plastic pollution in and around Jowai Town during their service and as Waheh Shnong.
The other highlights of the day included patriotic songs and dances performed by school students and youths from various localities in the Jowai Urban area.
Later in the afternoon, the final of the Under 17 years Independence Day Cup football tournament between Mulang Ialong and Dulong Sports Club was played. Local MLA Shri Wailadmiki Shylla was the Chief Guest for the event.
Additionally, the winners of the Under 14 years (Boys) Companions in the State Level Inter school Subroto Mukherjee Cup football Tournament 2022 & 2023 and the overall champions of the Chief Minister State Level Inter School Athletic Meet-2023 were also felicitated at Kaing Nangbah Stadium, Dongmihsngi, Jowai.
In Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, the Independence Day Celebration took place at Amlarem Sub-Division Sport Association Mini Stadium, Playground.
Local MLA Lakhmen Rymui hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from 7 contingents of the Meghalaya Police Department and 6 schools.
In the program, ANMS and Anganwadi Workers were felicitated. Smt. Lady Khonglah, ANM Syndai HWC-SC under Pdengshakap PHC, and Smt. Dainelawanris Nongrum, ANM Muktapur, HWS-SC under Dawki PHC.
Lamjingshai Phoshna, Padu waksu, Jarain Sector, was awarded for Anganwadi best performance, Smt. Quissila Khonglah Sokha Model, Nongtalang Sector, for top performance, and Aibanshngain Kassar, Pdengshakap North, for good performance. Pdengshakap Sector.
Top three FPS Dealers on online transactions, Ration Card Seeding, and Beneficiaries Seeding were also felicitated. The Top performance on online transactions was awarded to Diwelson Mukhim, Nongtalang Amsohmehelang, Justifield Pohkynru, Trangblang, and Benediction Buam, Muktapur C.
The Top performance on RC seeding was given to Shylla Pohshna, Pdengkarong, Aibanri Khongsdir, Dawki, and Resting Tariang, Jong-U-Shen.
The Top performance on beneficiary seeding was achieved by Bareh Pohrmen, Shnongthymmai (Nongtalang), Firstly Joy Dhar, Lamin, and Anna Mukhim, Padu B.
Certificates of appreciation were given to all the March Pass contingents, and Certificates of participation were given to all the participants of the cultural program.
In Hima Shangpung – Laskein C & RD Block, the 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Hula Playground Moosyiem, Shangpung.
Sutnga Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering.
Other highlights of the day included patriotic songs and cultural dances performed by the students.
