80-yr-old man dies of COVID-19, 108 new cases detected in Meghalaya
An 80-year-old man died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 154 on Monday.
Nandeswar Das, a resident of Nongrim Hills was tested positive for COVID-19 on being admitted at the Supercare hospital on April 18, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
“However, he expired on the same day. The cause of death was due to diabetes mellitus with COVID-19 infection,” he said.
Meanwhile, 108 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the active cases in the state to 754 on Monday.
Dr War said the new cases include 95 in East Khasi Hills district, 7 in West Jaintia Hills district, 5 in Ri Bhoi district and 1 in East Jaintia Hills district.
He informed as many as 33 patients have also recovered from the viral infection of which 31 are from East Khasi Hills district and 2 from West Jaintia Hills district.
So far, the state has detected a total of 14,979 COVID-19 cases out of which 754 are active cases, 14,071 recovered and 154 deaths.
East Khasi Hills has 533 active cases, West Jaintia Hills 114, Ri Bhoi 50, East Jaintia Hills 18, West Garo Hills 13, West Khasi Hills 18, South West Khasi Hills 6, East Garo Hills 1 and North Garo Hills 1.
On the other hand, of the 4,36,898 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,21,919 were tested negative for the virus even as 160 persons are in institutional quarantine and 594 under home quarantine.
There are 1,06,553 entrants from outside the state.
22, 915 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 16,893 had received the second dose, while 35,109 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 23,089 got the second dose as on Monday.
Moreover, 72,485 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 7,434 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the State.
