A retired police officer among 12 arrested in sex racket
JOWAI: A retired police officer and 11 others have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a human trafficking racket, which was busted by the police in West Jaintia Hills District recently.
The accused persons were arrested following investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the West Jaintia Hills police to nab all those involved in the trafficking racket.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, district police chief Lakador Syiem said another 12 persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
“A retired police officer and four government employees were among the accused persons arrested by the SIT. They have been booked under relevant sections of the POCSO Act for committing rape on minors,” he said.
According to him, a total of 24 accused persons have been arrested so far. The SP further informed that the investigation on the matter is still going on. “We are getting the full cooperation of police from other districts and outside the state,” Syiem said while indicating that more will be arrested in the coming days.
