A village head assaulted a man over residential certificate issue
SHILLONG: A resident of Baridua village in Ri Bhoi district was allegedly assaulted by the headman just because he complain against the latter for refusing to issue a residential certificate to his son.
Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Goldenstar Khongwar said that Ionnis Narleng, headman of Baridua village along with a group of people had assaulted him on June 19.
“I had gone along four-five of my friends to his (Narleng) residence on that day to talk about the issue regarding the residential certificate. While we were waiting outside, suddenly the headman and others came and assaulted me. I managed to escape and rush to the Byrnihat out post as their intention was to kill me,” Khongwar said.
His statement came as a reaction to reports alleging that it was the headman who was being brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants.
Khongwar, who sustained injuries on his head and eyes, said that he had earlier requested the headman to issue residential certificate to his son for opening a bank account.
“On being turned down, I had lodged a complaint with the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and KHADC for their necessary intervention into the matter. After this, the headman and his friends also tried to assault me at Baridua market,” he said.
Asked, Khongwar said that he had also filed a counter FIR in this connection, but police are yet to take any action on the matter.
