AAP is now a National Party after recognition as state party in 4 states
After attaining recognition as State Party in four states of the country, the Election Commission of India on Monday granted recognition to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a National Party with its reserved symbol ‘Broom.’
According to an official order, the Commission informed that AAP has fulfilled the eligibility condition for granting recognition as National Party under Paragraph 6B (iii) of the Symbols Order as the party is recognized as State party in at least four States.
The party is already a recognized state party in the three States of Punjab, Goa and in NCT of Delhi and the fourth state to be added was the State of Gujarat.
The fourth state was added after the Commission reviewed the poll performance of the Aam Aadmi Party in the general election to the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat, 2022.
The exercise shows that the candidates set up by the Party have polled 12.92% of the valid votes polled in the said general election besides they won five out of the 182 seats in the Legislative Assembly.
Thus the party fulfilled the requirements for recognition as State Party in the State of Gujarat, as laid down in Paragraph 6A(i) {6% of total valid votes in Legislative Assembly and 2 seats in Legislative Assembly}, 6A(iii) {3% of total seats in Legislative Assembly or at least 3 seats in the Legislative Assembly, whichever is more} and 6A(v) {8% of total valid votes polled in Legislative Assembly in the state}.
