Aaranyak’s WeForNature to promote environmental stewardship and human welfare
Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organization in Northeast India, has launched an outreach initiative titled WeForNature to foster environmental stewardship and human welfare. The programme kicked off with a Birdwatching 101 event at the Garbhanga Reserve Forest in Guwahati, organized in collaboration with the Kamrup East Division of the Assam Forest Department.
The event brought together 27 nature enthusiasts from across the country and nine forest officials, including Range Officer Rosy Bora, Rani Range. Participants were guided by experienced birders such as Udayan Borthakur, Pranjal Mahananda, Devika Rani, and Partha Pratim Das. Pranab Goswami, Aaranyak’s Organizing Officer, oversaw the event logistics.
According to Udayan Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Organizing Secretary of Aaranyak, WeForNature aims to connect individuals with nature while creating a network of environmentally conscious citizens. Through various activities like nature watching, eco-talks, nature photography, and conservation-themed discussions (conservation adda), Aaranyak seeks to inspire sustainable lifestyles. Partnerships with other institutions will be key to the success of this initiative.
