Abhishek visit to Meghalaya marked with two fake news
The visit of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to Shillong on Wednesday was marked with circulation of two fake news in the social media for maligned the image of the party in Meghalaya.
The first propaganda against the AITC was a photoshopped image where the photograph of Vicky Dey was edited as brand ambassador of AITC and with message of “better governance for prosperity in Meghalaya.”
The first image went viral few hours after the AITC top brass leader landed in Umroi Airport, Meghalaya.
Reacting to the propaganda, the AITC Meghalaya stated “A sorry attempt at maligning TMC’s image.

Vicky Dey is a wanted criminal who the Meghalaya police hasn’t been able to nab. Our leader @georgeb_lyngdoh has also raised the issue of police inaction.”

The second miscampaign was a well doctored press release signed by AITC National Secretary declaring the candidature of Vicky Dey from Shillong South and Patricia Mukhim from Mawlai.

The press release was widely circulated and many netizens took it to be true.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Editors Publishers Association (MEPA) condemned the fake press release maligning Mukhim and urged Cyber Crime cell to nail the culprits
