Additional cost of Rs 29.43 Cr to be borne by state for upgradation of Mawlai sub-station: Mondal

Minister in-charge Power Abu Taher Mondal on Monday informed that the revised project cost for upgradation of Mawlai Sub-station from 3×20 MVA to 3×50 MVA under NESIDS-OTRI schemes from Rs 49.8 crore to Rs 79.23 crore was approved by the Ministry of DoNER on January 16, 2025.
Replying in the Assembly during the question hour, Mondal said, “Due to escalation of cost of the project, the central share has been limited to the original approved cost of Rs 49.8 crore and the additional cost of Rs 29.43 crore to be borne by the state government.”
He informed that the implementation has been initiated by Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited (MePTCL).
To a query raised by MLA Mawlai Brightstarwell Marbaniang, Mondal assured, “We will try to see this project come as early as possible as this sub-station is very important to Shillong city.
