Adelbert announces decision to quit KHNAM ahead of 2023 polls

The lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Sunday announced his decision to join another political party ahead of 2023 assembly elections in the state. 

“I am preparing to seek re-election from another political party,” Nongrum said in a statement. 

Stating that it was never his intention to betray the KHNAM, he however said, “But the people are aware that the happening within the KHNAM and situation demands me to quit the party.”

Nongrum assured that he would continue to work towards fulfillng all the promises made to the people of North Shillong. 

Nongrum was one of the founding leaders of KHNAM. He got elected twice as MDC in 2009 and 2014. He had unsuccessfully contested 2013 assembly elections.
