Adi-Apatani Summit 2025: A historic pact for peace and communal harmony in Arunachal Pradesh
In a landmark step towards unity and coexistence, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu hailed the Adi-Apatani Summit 2025 as a triumph of communal harmony. Addressing the historic event in Pasighat, Khandu witnessed the signing of a Joint Declaration by the Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) and Tanii Supun Dukun (TSD)—the apex bodies of the Adi and Apatani communities, respectively.
Khandu emphasized that despite their geographical and cultural distinctions, the Adis and Apatanis share an ancestral bond rooted in the legacy of Abotani. He warned against modern-day misunderstandings escalating into conflicts and urged both communities to uphold their centuries-old tradition of mutual respect.
“We cannot allow petty differences or rumours to disrupt the harmony that has been nurtured over generations. Instead, we must address challenges with wisdom, patience, and understanding,” Khandu stated.
The Joint Declaration sets a precedent for peaceful coexistence, banning traditional revenge practices while actively promoting inter-tribe marriages, cultural exchanges, and shared festivals. The resolution also condemns communal violence in any form, reinforcing the commitment to a progressive and united Arunachal Pradesh.
Praising the initiative, Khandu acknowledged that TSD had previously pioneered such agreements, signing a historic pact with the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) in 2015—a move that has since fostered peace and development between the Nyishi and Apatani communities.
In a state with over 26 major tribes and numerous sub-tribes, Khandu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen cultural bonds. He assured continued backing for inter-community dialogues, peace-building programs, and cultural preservation efforts.
“The youth are the torchbearers of Arunachal’s future,” Khandu remarked, urging them to uphold the values of unity and inclusivity. He called upon young leaders to draw inspiration from the Adi and Apatani communities and work towards a harmonious and prosperous Arunachal Pradesh.
The Adi-Apatani Summit 2025 marks a defining moment in the state’s journey toward lasting peace, setting an example for tribes across the region to come together in the spirit of fraternity and shared heritage.
