Administrator’s rule in KHADC revoked to pave way for formation of new EC
The state government has revoked the administrator’s rule (Governor’s Rule) in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and has decided to convene a two-day special session to elect the new chairman and chief executive member (CEM) of the Council.
“The Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to revoke his order for the taking over of the administration of the KHADC and the appointment of the administrator of the Council…with effect from the date of election of the chairman of the said Council.” a notification issued by the Commissioner & Secretary in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) A Mawlong said here on Friday.
The KHADC was brought under the administrator’s rule on February 7, due to political instability and frequent changing of allegiance by the elected members of the council.
However, the decision to revoke the order came after the United Democratic Party (UDP)-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Wednesday met the Governor Tathagata Roy and stake claim to form the new executive committee in the KHADC.
The notification also informed that governor has decided to summon a meeting of the KHADC on March 17 and March 18 for holding the elections to the posts of chairman and chief executive member of the Council respectively.
The election of the chairman will be held at 10 am on March 17 and election of the CEM at 11 am on March 18.
The governor has also authorize the deputy commissioner, East Khasi Hills District to preside over the meeting to elect the chairman, the notification said.
