After 29 years Namdong PHC finally upgraded as CHC
After serving for the past twenty nine years, the Namdong Primary Health Centre located in Namdong Village under West Jaintia Hills District was finally upgraded as Community Health Centre (CHC) on Monday.
The CHC was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Madan Sari, Namdong.
Namdong primary health centre covered apopulation of around 32,5977 with 04 sub centres under its care and 51 villages when it started as a PHC way back in 1993.
The foundation stone for its upgradation to a CHC was laid by the then Minister, PWD (Building) on 23/12/2002 in the presence of SF Khongwir, the then D.C of the district (jaintia hills) along with other dignitaries.
At present, there is one doctor and another has also been appointed with staff as per sanctioned post of a PHC. Sanction posts for a CHC has also been created in 2020. These posts will be filled up in due course of time.
With the CHC coming up in the area which is close to the Meghalaya-Assam border, the people of the village and the adjoining areas will be very much benefitted.
According to Central Govt norms, a CHC is to be manned by four medical specialists i.e. Surgeon, Physician, Gynecologist and Pediatrician and supported by 21 paramedical and other staff. It housed 30 indoor beds with one OT, X-ray, Labour Room and Laboratory facilities.
