Agatha says people of Gambegre will vote for NPP for better development
National People’s Party (NPP) leader and former Tura MP Agatha K Sangma on Tuesday expressed confidence that the people of Gambegre will vote for the party in the upcoming bye-election to be held on November 13, to ensure all round development of the constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “We have a very positive response from the people of Gambegre. I personally talked to many people and saw the campaignings. It is going on very well and I really think that the people of Gambegre have seen the works of the chief minister, they have seen the works of NPP and the government and I feel that Gambegre wants to be a part of that and to have an MLA, who is part of the government, who will help bring about better development, better schemes.”
“So I really feel that the people of Gambegre are looking forward to voting in this election and they will definitely look at the government of the day, they will look at our chief minister and also our candidate Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma. She is a very qualified candidate, and has had vast experience in public life. So I really feel that the combination is wonderful and we will see good results,” she added.
On Congress’ leader and Tura MP Saleng A Sangma’s allegation that the bye-poll has forced the CM and his ministers and MLAs to beg for votes, the former Tura MP however said, “I think that’s a very unfortunate way of looking at elections because I feel that eventually we who are in active politics always have to ask for votes from the people, have to go and work really hard in campaign and there is nothing wrong if the chief minister is spending time and campaigning, there is nothing wrong with the ministers campaigning because it shows how serious we are even for one small election.”
“I think one lesson we have learned over the years is to never take any election for granted. So giving your full might and making sure that we have positive results and being available to the people of Gambegre I think that’s a wonderful way the chief minister is going about campaigning,” she added further.
