Ahead of Bokrid 18 Myanmar-origin cattle seized at Katigorah, 1 smuggler arrested
In its drive against cattle smuggling ahead of Bokrid (Eid al-Adha), the Border Security Force (BSF) rescued/ seized 18 Myanmar-origin cattle from the Indo-Bangladesh border from general area of Katigorah in Cachar district on Wednesday.
“Based on specific information on the illegal movement of cattle towards border areas in Cachar district, a joint team of BSF and Katigorah Police rescued and seized 18 Myanmar origin cattle from the general area of Katigorah in Cachar while being transported towards border areas for smuggling to Bangladesh in a Tata truck with registration No NL02Q8128,” a BSF official here said.
One cattle smuggler has been arrested in this connection. He has been identified as Abdul Kayum Mazarbhuiya son of Fakar Uddin of Dudpur Part-III village in Cachar district.
“The seized/ rescued cattle and the vehicles used for illegal transportation along with the apprehended cattle smuggler have been handed over to Katigorah police station for further legal action,” he said.
“The BSF troops of Mizoram andCachar Frontier have seized 120 cattle heads since January 2024, while being attempted for smuggling purposes to Bangladesh, in its drive against cattle smuggling in Cachar and Karimganj border areas,” he added.
