AI to create more opportunities than job cuts: Industry expert
The Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) at Tezpur University (TU), in collaboration with the Robotics Society, has organized a three-day workshop and investor meet focused on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and entrepreneurship. The event, which commenced on Monday, also serves as a platform for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to explore opportunities in these domains.
The event’s knowledge partners include the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IIT Delhi), Technology Innovation Hub (IIT Delhi), and BITS BioCyTIH Foundation (Goa). The workshop brings together renowned experts such as Ekta Singla, Secretary of the Robotics Society and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Ropar, Prof. Shyamanta M. Hazarika from IIT Guwahati, Rajkumar More, founder and chairman of Torsa Machines Limited, and Prof. Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma, Dean of Research & Development at TU.
Inaugurating the event, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, emphasized the rapid advancements in AI and robotics. “Research and development in AI have reached such heights that robots are now becoming increasingly efficient and relevant in real-world applications,” he said.
Delivering the keynote as the chief guest, Mr. Rajkumar More, a leading industry expert, highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration between academia and industry to drive entrepreneurship. Stressing the need for nurturing individual dreams with strong parental support, he remarked, “AI won’t take away jobs but will create more opportunities.”
Dr. Ekta Singla underscored how robotics is revolutionizing sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and banking. She praised government initiatives like “Make in India 2.0” for their role in promoting the robotics sector. Citing successful examples such as Tata and Adverb Technologies, Dr. Singla urged participants to focus on innovative research and development in robotics and AI.
Throughout the three-day workshop, researchers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and MSMEs will engage in discussions on innovation and entrepreneurship in robotics and AI. The event is being coordinated by Dr. Nayan M. Kakoty, faculty member in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, TU, and Coordinator of the TEC.
