AICC to decide on action against 5 suspended MLAs: Pala
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala on Monday said action against the five suspended MLAs will depend on the decision of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
“We will submit a report to the AICC that we have issued show cause notices to the five MLAs and that they have not responded. However, it will depend on the AICC what action to be taken against them,” Pala told reporters.
“Once we submit the report they (AICC) will sit and give direction accordingly to us. Whether they will be expelled or suspended I cannot say as we are yet to get any direction from the AICC,” he said.

The five MLAs – Ampareen Lyngdoh, Kimfa S Marbaniang, Mohendro Rapsang, Mayralborn Syiem and PT Sawkmie – have been suspended after their decision to support the BJP-backed MDA government was seen as anti-party.
Asked, Pala said he had personally met Kimfa S Marbaniang. “However, our problem is not the MLAs or the MDCs, but the problem is that we cannot work with the BJP. The MLAs had also maintained that they cannot withdraw support to the NPP government which is backed by the BJP.”
Stating that it is not surprising that they (five MLAs) will resign from the Congress, Pala said that the Congress has already started reorganizing the party in Laitumkhrah, Nongpoh and others.
“It will not be difficult for us to get candidates,” he said while informing that the Congress will field candidates from all the 60 seats in the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.
