AICTE-VAANI scheme sponsored workshop to promote self-employment at ADBU
A transformative free workshop was conducted by Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) on “Swabalamban: Empowering Employment through Solar Energy,” from July 3 to 5 at its Azara campus in the Assamese language.
This initiative, organized by the university’s School of Technology, is part of their commitment to social empowerment and is sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education under its Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages (VAANI) scheme.
The three-day program aimed to enhance the employability of young individuals by equipping them with essential skills in solar energy technology and electrical house wiring.
A total of 54 participants successfully designed Solar Powered Chargeable LED lamps. These innovative lamps can be charged using solar energy or mobile chargers and can also serve as emergency mobile chargers. Participants also gained valuable knowledge on house wiring, including basic concepts, tools, and safety measures with hands-on experience.
During the valedictory function, each participant received a certificate of completion along with the solar-powered LED lamps they crafted during the training. These practical tools are expected to enable participants to embark on self-employment ventures or entrepreneurial endeavours in the renewable energy sector.
Prof Manoranjan Kalita, Director of the School of Technology, highlighted the program’s objective, stating, “Swabalamban is not just a training course; it’s a step towards empowering individuals with the skills and confidence to create sustainable livelihoods. We are thankful to AICTE for supporting initiatives that foster the use of Indian languages among educators and students to enhance the teaching and learning experience”.
Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and valuable insights into the solar energy field. Many are eager to utilize their newly acquired skills to contribute to their communities and explore new career paths.
The Swabalamban program underscores Assam Don Bosco University’s dedication to fostering educational and vocational opportunities that address the region’s socio-economic challenges and promote sustainable development.
